Mr Alaiyi West is a specialist in treating patients with problems related to the urinary tract. He is a consultant urological surgeon at the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough and the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton. He has a particular interest and expertise in the medical and surgical treatments of urinary stone disease and benign prostate problems. Mr West trained in Nottingham and Newcastle where he gained expertise in most urological subspecialties, particularly in complex endourology and uro-oncology. He undertook a further short clinical fellowship in Vellore, India, which provided further experience in key-hole surgery for large kidney stones. Mr West has led the development of the laser prostate surgery (HoLEP) service on Teeside, and regularly performs HoLEP at the Friarage Hospital.
