Education:

Following initial qualification (1984), I completed vocational training as a General Practitioner in Argyllshire. I then commenced basic surgical training in Aberdeen 1988-1992 followed by specialist training in cardiothoracic surgery in Liverpool, with a short period of secondment to Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester and a period of higher research in Birmingham and at the University of Warwick. I was appointed a Consultant Thoracic Surgeon at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital on 1st August 1999.
