Mr Tavares has been a local consultant in Reading since 2000 with over 1400 Hip replacements; Birmingham Hip re-surfacing; treatment of trochanteric bursitis; revision Hip replacements; Total knee replacements; Oxford uni-compartmental knee replacement; Cruciate ligament knee surgery; meniscal repair; arthroscopic knee surgery; sports injuries. Mr Tavares undertook his basic medical training in the West Indies. His post-graduate training was done on the Oxford Trauma and Orthopaedic training rotation (Stoke Mandeville Hospital, John Radcliffe Hospital, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre and Royal Berkshire Hospital) from 1993 to 2000.
