Mr Samir Massoud read Medicine at Alexandria University Medical School, Egypt, from 1980 to 1986. After moving to the UK in 1989, he trained in general surgical specialities, attaining the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1993. He joined the Nottingham Higher Surgical Orthopaedic Training Scheme in 1995, attaining the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Trauma & Orthopaedics in 1999. Mr Massoud was appointed the Shoulder Surgery Fellow to the Reading Shoulder Unit in July 2000 for one year and trained in the Nottingham Shoulder and Elbow Unit for 6 months thereafter. He trained extensively in arthroscopic, reconstructive and joint replacement surgery and management of sports injuries of the knee and shoulder. He was appointed a consultant orthopaedic surgeon to the Arthroscopy Unit at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and University Hospital Birmingham in January 2003.
