Mr Raj Bhattacharya started off his initial medical career in Lanarkshire, Scotland following which he moved to the North-East of England to complete his Basic Surgical Training. Here he completed a Masters degree in Evidence Based Orthopaedic Studies and underwent higher training as a Specialist Registrar (Calman Training Scheme) in Trauma and Orthopaedics within the Northern Deanery, based in Newcastle Upon Tyne. Subsequently, he undertook Specialist Fellowship Training in Knee Surgery at the Edinburgh Knee Unit followed by a Trauma Fellowship at the Edinburgh Trauma Unit. He followed this with a further Fellowship in Knee Surgery at the Southampton Knee Unit and was appointed as a Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery at the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in London in 2010. His clinical interests mainly include complex trauma and knee injuries as well as knee joint replacements, keyhole surgery and knee ligament reconstruction. He also has active research interests in these areas and has published in several peer-reviewed journals and presented his work at various National and International forums. He has been heavily involved in the teaching and training of medical students initially at Newcastle University and subsequently at University of Edinburgh and currently continues to do so at the Imperial College Medical School.
