I started my medical career in India in Tamil Nadu, where I did my orthopaedic training for three years from 1998 to 2001. I did a thesis on surgical management of upper cervical spine instability for my MS (Orth) degree obtained from the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University, India in 2001. I undertook a fellowship in spinal surgery in Cardiff (University Hospital Wales & University Hospital Llandough) in 2004 when I published my hypothesis on Odontoid fractures in the elderly. Following this I did an orthopaedic rotation in the Northern Deanery. I underwent advanced spinal training fellowship in the Spinal Centre in Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham in 2009. In 2010, before taking up my role as spinal consultant in Sunderland Royal Hospital, I did a minimally invasive spinal surgery fellowship in Schon Klinik at Munich with Prof Mayer and co.
