I was appointed to the staff at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and the Murrayfield Hospital in 2003. I am a specialist hip and knee surgeon with particular expertise in difficult joint replacement surgery, and musculoskeletal oncology surgery. I’ve trained on the Stryker Mako robotic arm technology in both Australia and Germany. I believe the robot will have a major effect on partial knee replacements. Using the robotic arm means I can personalise every operation to suit each of my patients, and make alterations mid-operation that couldn’t be made using previous surgical methods.
