Mr Richards graduated from St. Mary’s Hospital, London in 1996, with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery Degree and an Honours Degree in Physiology. He undertook his specialist orthopaedic training on the South West Thames rotation where he developed specialist interests in shoulder and elbow surgery and in complex trauma. He was privileged to spend a year at the world-renowned John Hopkins Hospital in the USA where his research, on tears of the rotator cuff, lead to the award of a Master of Surgery degree. He has also received specialist fellowship training in complex trauma and reconstructive surgery at the Rowley Bristow unit in Surrey and in arthroscopic techniques in the shoulder and elbow at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospital in London. In 2009 Mr Richards was appointed as a consultant at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals with a specialist interest in shoulder and elbow surgery and complex traumatic injuries of the upper limb.
