Mr Thiruchelvam is qualified in both Medicine and dentistry. He has had extensive training in all aspects of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. He is one of the few in this specialty who has done a fellowship (speciality training) in paediatric craniofacial surgery. During this time, he had extensive training in all aspects of maxillofacial and oral surgery, including rhinoplasty and facial cosmetic procedures. At present he is actively involved in the surgical management of Head & Neck Cancer management, which includes, oral, skin, salivary gland cancer. This involves its removal and reconstruction. He is part of the surgical team involved in post Mohs reconstruction in the Trust. He is actively involved in the one stop neck lump clinic at Chase Farm hospital for rapid diagnosis for patients. Following BEH strategy, he has a honorary contract at University College hospital and is involved in the surgical management of complex oral cancer patients. He is also actively involved in the establishment of links with North Middlesex providing Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery service at NMH. He also provides service on other aspects of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery including Temporomandibular Joint problems, facial pain, salivary gland calculus, oral lesions etc. He is also trained in Facial plastic surgery (including non-surgical management- Botulinum toxin and fillers). Mr Thiruchelvam has published in several peer review journals and has presented internationally. He has won a prize in poster presentation in an international meeting. He is the educational supervisor and is involved in the teaching program for junior doctors (SHO and Registrars). He provides a friendly & personal service to all his patients and has received appreciation for the same.
