Mr Robert Gornall was appointed as a consultant gynaecological surgeon by Gloucestershire Hospitals Trust in 2001. He studied at Manchester University and undertook surgical training with the award of a fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons. He then followed a career in gynaecology with training at the University Hospitals of Manchester, Southampton, Hammersmith and St Mary's London. Mr Gornall has undertaken original research into the genetic causes of ovarian and breast cancer for which he gained a DM. He is a dedicated gynaecological specialist and, in addition to managing common gynaecological conditions, has a special interest in the investigation and treatment of possible uterine and ovarian tumours. He is one of the most experienced surgeons nationally, undertaking total laparoscopic hysterectomy; along with 150 national specialists, he is formally accreditated by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologsts to undertake complex gynaecological cancer surgery. Mr Gornall is also a trained colposcopist to investigate abnormal cervical smears and manage precancer changes. In addition to his clinical duties, he is Medical Director for the 3 Counties Cancer Network - providing cancer care for the populations of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and South Worcestershire.
