I graduated from the Royal London Hospital Medical College, University of London in 1987 with an additional first class honours degree in pharmacology. I completed higher medical training at St Bartholomew's and Guys Hospitals, London, before undertaking higher specialist training in dermatology at St Bartholomew's Hospital, London and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital between 1992 and 1998. During this time I also won a research fellowship in biomedical pharmacology at the William Harvey Institute, London studying the effects of steroids on skin cell biology. I was appointed consultant dermatologist for West Kent in August 1998, based at the Medway Maritime Hospital and also work at Maidstone Hospital.
