Dr David Smith is a consultant cardiologist based at Morriston Hospital since 2006. He trained in Southampton, London, South Wales and Paris. He investigates and treats patients who have symptoms of chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations and blackouts. Dr Smith specialises in treating angina, heart attacks and valvular heart disease. Dr Smith performs coronary angiography and angioplasty including complex angioplasty such as chronic total occlusions, laser and rotational atherectomy. In addition he performs "key-hole" valve replacement (transcatheter aortic valve implantation - TAVI) for people with heart valve disease. He works for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) as an expert advisor in the management of heart attacks and is an elected member of the council of the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society (BCIS).
