Dr Arvinder Kurbaan is a consultant cardiologist at The Heart Hospital (part of UCLH) and Homerton University Hospital. He has previously held posts at the London Chest and St Bartholomew’s hospitals. He graduated in 1990 from Guy’s Hospital medical school (now part of Kings College, London) to embark upon his medical training. In 1993 he became a member of the Royal College of Physicians, London. Having completed his general medical training at Guy’s and associated hospitals, he undertook his training in cardiology at Harefield, Royal Brompton and St Mary’s hospitals. He was awarded the higher post graduate degree of Doctorate in Medicine (MD) having undertaken research at Imperial College London, developing a better understanding of the treatment of coronary heart disease. He was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians, FRCP in 2003. Dr Kurbaan is entered into the GMC Specialist Register for Cardiology (and General Internal Medicine). He is a member of the British Cardiovascular Society and British Cardiovascular Intervention Society. He has published comprehensively within cardiology literature throughout his career and has presented his work internationally at cardiology conferences. He is actively involved in teaching both at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and has also been involved with the development of novel devices in the cardiovascular field. His wide ranging training has enabled him to develop special interests within the broad field of cardiology. His specialist interests include treating blockages in the heart arteries (coronary angioplasty/stenting), closing holes in the heart (closure of patent foramen ovale and atrial septal defects) and treating damaged heart valves.
